This is the lowest-priced still on our list, and it's also the simplest. It has a 3 gallon copper pot, no thumper, and nothing else to figure out. It's handmade in a family shop in New Hampshire. The shop calls it a great starter still or a conversation piece, and we agree with both.
Where it lands on our lists
- By budget: Under $250. This flash sale starts at $229.
- By size: Small. The pot holds 3 gallons, and the shop is clear that it's a very small unit.
- By use: Beginners, display pieces, and anyone who wants to see copper, heat, and vapor at work on a small scale.
What to know about the copper
The product photo shows the still after polishing. It leaves the shop polished, but copper oxidizes fast, so expect the shine to fade into a patina. Some owners polish it again. Others like the color the metal turns. Either way, you're watching a little chemistry happen on the shelf.
Set honest expectations
The shop says plainly that this still makes only a small amount per run, usually around 10% of the pot size. It's a still for learning and having fun, not for big batches. It also comes with the shop's lifetime warranty.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Stills like this are also used for water and essential oils. Distilling alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, and you must follow federal, state, and local law.
